No single MCP server covers every kind of competitor data. AI engines answer this question by naming servers for each category: competitor SEO (keywords, rankings, gaps, backlinks), traffic estimates (visits, channel mix), competitor ads (public ad libraries), and social (profiles, posts, engagement). What competitor research MCP servers cover

Competitor research falls into four categories, and each needs its own data source:

Competitor SEO: Keywords a rival ranks for, keyword gaps (they rank, you don't), backlink profiles, and search rankings. Ahrefs, Semrush, SE Ranking and DataForSEO cover this through their own indexes or APIs.

Traffic estimates: Monthly visits, channel mix (organic, paid, social, referrals), and audience demographics. Similarweb estimates these from panel data and partnerships. Third-party traffic numbers are modeled, not the competitor's private analytics.

Competitor ads: Public ad libraries let you search the ads rivals run on Meta, Google, TikTok, LinkedIn and Microsoft. For competitor ad research, you need a server that reads the public libraries.

Semrush MCP is Semrush's official hosted server at https://mcp.semrush.com/v2/mcp. Sign in with OAuth or an API key. It needs Semrush One Starter or Pro+, or SEO Classic Pro or Guru, each with 50,000 API units, or Semrush One Advanced or SEO Classic Business with an API units package. Traffic and market estimates need a separate Trends API plan.

For competitor research, your agent can identify top organic competitors by keyword overlap, find keyword gaps (they rank, you don't), compare backlink profiles, and track traffic changes over time. Every request spends API units from your plan.

Best for: Teams already on Semrush who want competitor SEO and traffic data from their existing subscription.

Similarweb MCP

Similarweb MCP is Similarweb's official hosted server. Connect via OAuth in Claude or with an API key. It uses the same data-credit model as the Similarweb API, with usage varying by query scope and endpoints accessed.

For competitor research, your agent can pull traffic and engagement (visits, unique visitors, bounce rate, session duration), traffic sources by channel (direct, organic, paid, social, referrals), geography breakdowns, similar sites, referrals, and audience interests. Ahrefs MCP is Ahrefs' official hosted server at https://api.ahrefs.com/mcp/mcp. Connect with OAuth, which creates an MCP-scoped API key. You need Lite ($129/mo) or higher. Lite includes 200,000 API units per month, with every call costing at least 50 units.

SpyFu: A community MCP server exists (AlexanderCord/spyfu-mcp-server), but SpyFu's own site does not list an official MCP server as of October 2026.

Example competitor research prompts

Traffic numbers are estimates

Third-party traffic and ad-spend figures are modeled, not the competitor's private analytics. Similarweb, Semrush and Ahrefs use panel data, partnerships and public sources to estimate visits and channels. DataForSEO and Manifold's seo_get_traffic_estimates return modeled estimates. These numbers reveal trends and relative scale, but do not match a competitor's actual Google Analytics.

For your own site, use Search Console or Google Analytics data, which Manifold and some other servers read at 0 credits or included in your subscription.
