The best MCP servers for content marketing
MCP servers for every stage of content marketing, from keyword research and questions people ask to SEO optimization and CMS publishing. Compare research, brief, optimization, and publishing servers.
Which MCP servers help write and publish content?
Research data, then brief, optimize and publish to your CMS
Writing content that ranks takes several steps: find what to write (keywords, questions people ask), build the brief (topics and structure), optimize the draft (score and adjust), and publish it to the CMS. Each stage has its own MCP server, so your agent can run the whole workflow without you switching tabs. Below: which server does which job, how it connects, and pricing checked October 2026.
For measuring content performance and finding what to refresh, see Google Search Console MCP servers and Google Analytics MCP. To track how AI answers recommend you, read AI visibility MCP servers.

SEO research: Ahrefs, Semrush, SE Ranking, DataForSEO, and Manifold
Keyword research, competitor analysis, backlinks, and SERP data come from the best SEO MCP servers. If you already pay for Ahrefs or Semrush, use their hosted MCP servers. Manifold hosts SEO research with no API keys of your own, at 0 credits for Search Console and Bing tools, and per-call pricing for SERP, keywords, backlinks, and crawls.
Best for: Finding what to write and which keywords to target. See the full SEO MCP comparison for setup, pricing, and which plan includes API access.
Frase MCP
Frase MCP is Frase's official hosted server at https://next.frase.io/api/mcp. Frase is in the Claude connector directory, so in Claude you search for it, click Connect and sign in. Other clients such as Cursor and Windsurf point at the same address, and there is also a command-line tool (npx @frase/cli) with API keys in your Frase settings. Your agent can research a topic, build a brief, draft the page, score it for Google and for AI citations, and publish it to WordPress, Webflow, Wix, Sanity or FraseCMS. Publishing waits for your approval by default.
Frase pricing starts at $39/mo billed yearly, or $49/mo month to month, for the Starter plan, with a 7-day free trial. The MCP server and CLI are on every plan, checked October 2026.
Best for: End-to-end content workflow from brief to optimization to publishing, with AI visibility checks built in.
Surfer MCP
Surfer MCP is Surfer's official hosted server at https://mcp.surferseo.com/mcp. Add it to Claude, Claude Code, ChatGPT, Cursor, VS Code or Codex and sign in with your Surfer account. Your agent can write and optimize articles, work with live SEO guidelines and content scores, and check your brand's visibility in AI answers.
Surfer MCP is included in the Pro, Peace of Mind, Enterprise and AI Search Analytics plans. Creating a Content Editor or running Auto-Optimize uses your plan's credits, and reading data does not. See Surfer pricing for current plan prices.
Best for: SEO scoring and optimization within Surfer, for teams already paying for Surfer.
Limits: No direct CMS publishing. Surfer can publish via Webflow through its own app integration, not through the MCP server.
Answer Socrates MCP
Answer Socrates MCP is a hosted server at https://answersocrates.com/api/mcp. In Claude you add it as a custom connector and sign in with your Answer Socrates account. Other clients use an API key from your Account page. Your agent can find rising topics, compare 12-month Google Trends across a basket of keywords, pull the full keyword set for a term (questions, prepositions, comparisons and autocomplete), cluster keywords by intent, and save lists to your projects.
MCP and API access starts on the Seneca plan, with 6,000 API requests a year on yearly billing, per the Answer Socrates pricing page checked October 2026. Each data call uses 1 request.
Best for: Finding questions people ask Google, for content ideation and FAQ sections.
Limits: Research only. No optimization or CMS publishing.
WordPress MCP Adapter
WordPress MCP Adapter is WordPress's official adapter for self-hosted sites. It runs as a plugin on your own site and exposes Abilities (WordPress's unit of functionality) as MCP tools. Your agent connects through WP-CLI, or over HTTP at /wp-json/mcp/mcp-adapter-default-server on your site.
The adapter is free and open source under the GPL. Client setup examples are in its CLI usage guide.
Best for: Publishing to a self-hosted WordPress site, for teams that manage their own WordPress install.
Limits: Self-hosted only. For WordPress.com, see the next entry.
WordPress.com MCP
WordPress.com MCP is WordPress.com's built-in hosted server at https://public-api.wordpress.com/wpcom/v2/mcp/v1. Enable MCP in your WordPress.com account settings, then connect and approve access in your browser with OAuth. One connection reaches every site on your account. Self-hosted sites connected through Jetpack with a Jetpack AI or Jetpack Complete plan use the same server.
MCP access is included on all WordPress.com paid plans. A free site gets it for its first 30 days, checked October 2026.
Best for: Publishing to WordPress.com sites, with site-level and account-level tool controls.
Webflow MCP
Webflow MCP is Webflow's hosted server. Your agent can manage CMS collections and items, pages, SEO meta titles and descriptions, assets, styles, components and custom code, and read traffic if you have the Webflow Analyze add-on. It works within your existing Webflow roles, and each authorization covers one Workspace. A few canvas actions need the Webflow Designer open with the Bridge App connected.
Best for: Publishing to Webflow sites, with canvas actions when the Designer is open.
Contentful MCP
Contentful MCP is Contentful's official server. It runs locally with npx -y @contentful/mcp-server and a Contentful Management API personal access token, plus your space and environment IDs. Your agent can work with entries, assets and content types in your space.
Best for: Publishing to Contentful CMS, with read and write across content and content models.
Sanity MCP
Sanity MCP is hosted at https://mcp.sanity.io and lets your agent query, create, patch, publish, and manage Sanity content, schemas, releases, and projects. Connect with OAuth, or with an API token in the Authorization header. Set it up automatically with npx sanity@latest mcp configure, or add the HTTP endpoint manually.
You need a Sanity account. Most tools are standard API calls, and only the image generation tools use Sanity AI credits.
Best for: Publishing to Sanity CMS, with migrations and bulk edits.
Notion MCP
Notion MCP is Notion's hosted server. Connect with OAuth, and your agent can search Notion and connected sources, read, create and update content, and create pages and databases. Workspace owners can manage which clients connect in Settings.
Best for: Content briefs, content calendars, and planning docs in Notion.
Limits: Notion is not a CMS. Use it for planning, then publish with a CMS server.
Zapier MCP
Zapier MCP lets your agent take actions in 9,000+ apps that Zapier connects. You create a server for each MCP client in Zapier and sign in with OAuth. Your client must support Streamable HTTP. Each successful tool call uses two tasks from your Zapier plan, and failed calls do not count.
Best for: Glue between your agent and apps that do not have their own MCP server.
Limits: Publishing through Zapier is indirect. Use a CMS's own MCP server when one exists.
Manifold
Manifold is a hosted MCP server for research data across SEO, AI visibility, social, Reddit, ads, and leads. For content marketing, it covers keyword research, SERP data, backlinks, technical crawl, your own Search Console and Bing (at 0 credits), questions people ask AI engines and what those engines answer and cite, Reddit threads where your audience talks, and YouTube transcripts and comments.
Manifold is pay per call, with 250 free credits per workspace, then Pro from $20/mo. Search Console and Bing tools cost 0 credits. SEO, AI visibility, social, Reddit, YouTube, ads, and leads tools are per call. See SEO tools, AI visibility tools, Reddit tools, and YouTube tools for what each covers.
Limits: Manifold looks things up. It does not write, optimize, or publish content. Pair it with a brief and optimization server (Frase, Surfer) and a CMS server (WordPress, Webflow, Contentful, Sanity).
Best for: Hosted research across SEO, AI answers, social, and Reddit, with no API keys of your own.
Example content marketing prompts
These prompts show the full workflow from research to published draft. Your agent calls the servers it needs for each step.
Find what to write from Reddit and AI answers
"Pull the top Reddit threads about home espresso from the last month, check which questions ChatGPT and Gemini answer about espresso machines, and build a content brief that covers both the conversations and the AI answers. Score it for SEO and save it as a draft in WordPress."
Your agent uses Manifold's Reddit and AI visibility tools for research, Frase or Surfer for the brief and scoring, and a WordPress MCP server for publishing.
Refresh an underperforming post
"Find the pages on my site losing clicks in the last 90 days from Search Console, pick the one with the biggest drop, check what the top 5 results cover now, and suggest what to add or change. Then optimize the updated draft and save it back to Webflow."
Your agent uses Manifold's Search Console tools and SEO tools for the drop and SERP analysis, Frase or Surfer for optimization, and Webflow MCP for publishing.
Turn YouTube comments into an FAQ
"Find the most-watched YouTube videos about pour-over coffee from the last 6 months, read the top comments on each, group the questions people ask, and draft an FAQ section. Score it for SEO and add it to the Contentful draft."
Your agent uses Manifold's YouTube tools for research, Frase or Surfer for scoring, and Contentful MCP for publishing.
Track what AI engines recommend
"Check whether ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, and AI Overviews recommend my brand when someone asks for the best project management tool, log which competitors they name, and save the report to Notion."
Your agent uses Manifold's AI visibility tools for the check and Notion MCP for the report.
Content calendar from keyword gaps
"Find keywords my competitor ranks for that I don't, filter for questions, and build a content calendar in Notion with one post per question, prioritized by search volume."
Your agent uses an SEO MCP server (Ahrefs, Semrush, Manifold) for keyword gaps and Notion MCP for the calendar.
Run this in your agent
Connect Manifold to Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor, then paste this prompt.
Find the questions people ask about cold brew coffee on Reddit and in AI answers, check which rank on Google, build a content brief covering both, score it for SEO, and save the draft to WordPress.
