# Check a page's meta tags

> Enter a URL. We fetch the page live and check the tags Google reads first: the title, the meta description, the H1, the canonical and robots tags, and the schema it declares.

This is a free tool on the web page at https://www.manifoldmcp.com/free-tools/meta-tag-checker: 20 runs a day per visitor, no signup, run by a person in a browser. An agent can do the same job, and more, by connecting Manifold's MCP server at `https://mcp.manifoldmcp.com/mcp` (250 free credits a month). See [SEO MCP server](https://www.manifoldmcp.com/mcp/seo.md).

## How it works

1. Enter the page's URL, or just a domain for its homepage.
2. We fetch the page live and read its head and headings.
3. See how Google may show it, which checks pass, and what to fix.

## Check every page, then fix them

One page is a spot check. With Manifold connected, your agent crawls the whole site for missing and duplicate titles, broken canonicals and noindex tags, ranks the fixes by the traffic each page earns, and rewrites the titles that need it.

| | Here | In your agent with Manifold |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Pages | One URL | The whole site, crawled |
| Issues | This page's tags | Duplicates, broken links, redirects and more |
| Fixes | The checks that fail | New titles and descriptions, written for you |
| Price | Free | Free for one page; a crawl costs credits |

### Things to ask your agent

- Crawl [domain] and list pages with missing or duplicate titles and descriptions.
- Rewrite the title and meta description of [URL] for the keyword [keyword], under 60 and 160 characters.
- Check the meta tags of our top 20 pages by Search Console clicks and list what to fix first.

## Questions

### How long should a title tag be?

Around 30 to 60 characters. Google cuts titles by width, so past about 60 the end is likely to be lost. Put the words people search first.

### How long should a meta description be?

Around 70 to 160 characters. Google often writes its own snippet instead, but a clear description that matches the search is the one it most often keeps.

### Does this validate my schema markup?

No. It lists the schema types the page declares in JSON-LD. Google's Rich Results Test checks whether markup qualifies for rich results.

### Is the meta tag checker free?

Yes. You get 20 checks a day here, with no signup. For more, connect Manifold to Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor: the free plan gives your agent 250 credits every month, with no card.
